On the 5th of December 2014 the Irish Heart Foundation held their inaugural "Remember December" event at the Grand Canal Basin, Dublin. The idea of the event was to light a candle and remember those who have died from heart disease and stroke and as a symbol of hope to families in 2015.The IUSRU were on hand on the night to help with the floating of the candles out onto the grand canal basin and as water rescue cover. In the photo above is our member, Richard Kaye accepting a candle from
Aideen Byrne from Cork who was remembering Kevin Melia. On the night broadcaster and author Christy Kenneally said a few words to mark the occasion and was accompanied with music by Orlaith Pugh. More than 100 candles were set afloat that night on the Grand Canal Basin, a poignant reminder of those lost through heart disease and strokes.
